Who doesn’t love a great pair of leggings?! They are comfortable, easy to style and a great addition to your wardrobe. However, there are do’s and don’ts regarding leggings. So let’s dive in!
Leggings are not a pant, they are a layering piece. A good rule of thumb (not just with leggings) is attention to proportion. Leggings are fitted, slim and narrow…so to create balance, a long flowing top or tunic is a great option. A silly little thing I always do as a check for myself is to put my arms straight down by my side. If the bottom hem of my top is as long as or longer than the end of my fingertips, I’m usually safe. If my top doesn’t quite reach the end of my fingertips, I don’t wear it.
There are many colors to choose from! I find the older I get, I tend to stay with black, brown, navy, gray and sometimes white. Prints are adorable, just not my style so I steer clear of them. The big question that is often asked is “what about white leggings?” So let’s go there for a minute! I personally do wear white leggings, however I’m very particular about what I pair them with. White in general is not slimming. White leggings tend to feeler thinner in fabric and they show everything! When shopping for a pair look at the thickness of the material. Lastly, white leggings are for summer only.
*side note – when dark colors start fading, replace them.
