8 ways to slowly transition into fall

It’s so hard to even think about transitioning to fall when it’s still 95 degrees outside! Here are 8 ideas on how to start shifting from summer to fall… (keep in mind these are just items I pulled out of my closet to use as an example:)

  1. Nail Polish – Light neutrals or a french manicure is perfect all year around. One small change we can make is to switch from bright pinks to deeper tones (fall colors). The one on the left is Brandi and the one on the right is Dakota. I wear the pink in the summer and the darker one in the fall/winter.

2. Shoes – Trading out flip flops, espadrilles and sandals for either a closed toe shoe, booties (booties that have a peep toe). Again, this is a minor change that can make a big difference.

3. Handbags – Anything straw or Rattan can be switched out for leather. Back to the colors…lighter colored handbags can be traded out for darker colors. (these pictures are older styles so I can’t link them) The Kate Spade on the left is too bright for fall/winter. The one on the right is the perfect color to head into fall!

4. Lipstick – Like the nail polish, I know I tend to wear more pinks in the summer…but shifting more towards warmer tones is a quick fix. Again, the neutrals are appropriate all year around.

These are a few of my favorite colors! (from left to right)

5. Fabrics – Linen can now be put up until next Spring. It’s time to shift to Ponte’ Knit, twill and thicker fabrics. Linen (on the left) is a summer fabric. The thin cap sleeve tee is also just for summer.

6. Jewelry – Shell necklaces, light colored rope (see example) can be exchanged for darker rope. It’s hard to see in the picture… but the necklace on the right has a light colored rope/ strand which is for summer. The necklace on the left has a black rope/strand which is great for fall/winter. (Both are older styles from J.Jill so I am unable to link)

7. Colors in your wardrobe – it’s time to take out the bright pinks, aquas, and other summery colors and start wearing richer, darker tones. The two on the left are summery colors I have pulled from my closet for now. The two on the right are more appropriate for fall.

8. Sleeve length – Sleeveless is so comfortable when temps are crazy high, but we can slowly start wearing short sleeves or 3/4 sleeves as we ease into fall. The chambray top on the left is good because of the elbow sleeve length. The chambray top on the right is very thin with a cap sleeve, soi have moved it out of my closet for now.

None of the above are absolute hard fast rules…simply ideas about how to transition from summer to fall. I hope this has been helpful! Please leave me a comment on other ideas you have about how to do this. I love learning from you! Thanks for spending some time with me today. Have a great week!

Blessings~Michelle
