Let’s talk skincare! I haven’t always taken care of my skin like I should. When I was about 48, I decided I needed to change that. I had no idea where to start, so I started watching YouTube videos of other women my age and started implementing some of their suggestions. Then, I started working at a day spa and learned SO much more. I had the opportunity to attend training classes offered by amazing skincare lines.
Here is a picture of me today beside one 10 years ago. I think my skin is in much better shape today at 54 than it was at 44. So I thought I’d share what all I have done and maybe it will give you a few ideas to incorporate into your skincare routine.
I want to be very transparent and tell you that I did have eye surgery (upper and lower blepharoplasty). That surgery removed the bags under my eyes and lifted my hooded eyelids. I think that small change made a huge difference. That being said, surgery does not change the texture of your skin, pore size or wrinkles. So even though I was very pleased with my results from surgery, I knew I still had a lot of work to do. (If any local friends want info about who did my surgery, I’ll tell you all the details)
I learned from working at the spa how important is is to get facials regularly. It would be ideal to get a facial once a month. I could not afford to get them once a month, so I started by getting them 4 times a year. I would also take advantage of specials, for instance I would buy a $200 gift card that was redeemable for $300 in services. That way I could more easily afford it. *And just a side note, HydraFacial’s are my favorite type of facial to get.
Here is my morning skincare routine in the order I use the products. (You can tap on the picture for more information or to purchase)
When I first started getting serious about my skincare, I just bought the most important products and would add others as I could afford it. If you want to just use the bare minimum in the morning, use a good cleanser, vitamin c serum and moisturizer. (If you ever need suggestions please feel free to ask)
Here is my evening skincare routine in the order in which I use each product. The only thing I do differently is instead of using a Retinol product, I use prescription strength Retin A.
And if you are looking for the bare minimum at night, I would say to have a good cleanser, Retinol or Retin A and moisturizer. You can always add products that target certain areas later.
I do get Botox and Filler at The Dermatology Clinic in Baton Rouge (Dr. Harrell is my Dermatologist). And I’ve also had microneedling and microdermabrasion done there as we. Both are so good for your skin, and I highly recommend them. I think good skincare is so important, because I believe looking your best starts with good healthy skin. You can put the best makeup on, but if the skin isn’t smooth and plump, you aren’t going to get the results you desire.
If you have any questions please ask! I sure don’t know it all, but I can share my personal experiences with you.
Enjoy your week! ~ Michelle
How was your experience with the eye lid surgery, I have always had eye bags and as I’m heading into late 40s I’m thinking if that’s the only solution
I had a positive experience. I’m so glad I had it done because I think it made a big difference. I would highly recommend it!
Thanks fir being so open!
Who did your eye surgery?
Hey Sandra! Dr. Anthony Stephens did my eye surgery. He is an awesome plastic surgeon.
Thanks for the mention Gwen!
Popping over from Gwen’s blog.
I used to get facials regularly because my friend is an aesthetician in Denver, but when we moved to AZ, I missed going a lot. I’ve finally found someone and usually go about the same as you. I always think it helps so much (plus I try to pick her brain, LOL)
