It’s never too late to start a good skincare routine! I didn’t get real serious about it until my late 40’s. When I did finally commit to using good products consistently, it took me a while to understand what order to use them. I even wrote it out on an index card AM routine on one side and PM routine on the other. I am not a skincare expert, but I can tell you what my aestheticians tell me and share my results.
AM Skincare Routine
In the morning, the first step is to cleanse. There are many good cleansers out there, just make sure you are using one that does not leave your skin feeling dry. Here are a few of my favorites.
The 2nd step in the morning is to tone. I’ll be honest, I skip this step most of the time. It is suppose to even out your skin to receive the following products. When I do use a toner, I use this one.
Next is a good Vitamin C Serum. Here are the ones I have found that work really well.
The 4th step is a hydrating serum. There are many out there to choose from. Here are a few of my favorites.
The 5th step is eye cream. I am pretty picky about eye cream…some just do nothing. Here are a few that I have given me good results.
Last step is to moisturize and then SPF. I prefer to use a moisturizer that has SPF in it for convenience. Here are the ones I highly recommend.
PM Skincare Routine
The graphic above says to first double cleanse. What that means is first remove your makeup and then cleanse your face. To remove your make up you could use a makeup remover wipe, micellar water or coconut oil. Or you could use a cleansing balm this removes makeup and cleans your skin. Below are my recommendations.
Next step is to tone, which we talked about above, and then apply your Retinol product. You can get a prescription from your Dermatologist, or use an over the counter. This is what I am currently using as my Retinol. It is difficult to recommend one because everyone tolerates Retinol differently. If you would like another recommendation, let me know.
Our 4th step is eye cream, which was mentioned above.
Lastly is moisturizer. You do not need one with SPF at night, so I use a different one in the evening. At night I combine this moisturizer with this face oil (it is not greasy). And here are a few really good PM moisturizers.
